“Down in Mexico” doesn’t mean anything.
Like... firstly, crossing unregistered cars into Mexico is illegal, that Kia would’ve been stopped immediately. Secondly, that’s clearly a US highway, you’re not fooling anyone... Even in the comments someone said it was near “Perris.” if the CHP had the resources (can youtube videos be used as proof in a court?) to find this video and charge you... they could... Because... and I cannot stress this enough... “Down in Mexico” doesn’t mean anything.
At least cover your plates, man.

All the cars in this video are slow.

I mean yes ... But, i t’s clear that all of those cars are breaking the speed limit.

it’s some running joke among amateur street racers that they’ve gone racing in mexico. But the big boy street racers making 1000+ hp are well organized and never get caught because they aren’t idiots.

+1000hp street racers? I need to see that.

“ Going down to Mexico” is basically code-word among the street racing crowd for “let’s do some interstate/highway races from a roll late at night” AFAIK.

Oh.... I thought they literally crossed the border and raced here.
I mean, it would be brilliant. We barely enforce speed limits.

One of the speed limit signs said 55 now not having driven in Mexico I can’t be sure but I would guess the speed limit is higher than 55 Kph on access controlled highways. I mean I hope so how could you ever get anywhere driving that slow.

There was a massively powerful supra that was infamous for shitting all over the cops that showed up at the races he attended. I can’t remember the name of him off the top of my head but this was big on youtube back in like 2010 or so. A few others are like that but not too many. Woodward Ave. is mostly punkasses in neon SRTs and STI v Evo drags. Oh and the corvette crowd.

I think it originated from Texas street racers who put “filmed in Mexico” at the bottom of their videos as a disclaimer for their reckless (although typically done in the middle of the night with no traffic) racing.

The first two videos are in Texas, the others in Russia. The first two videos, the channels that post them have tons of videos. You can also look up anything with TX2K14/15/16/17/18.

The national speed limit is 110 km/h if I recall correctly. But it’s honestly more of a suggestion than a limit. For a cop to pull you over you need to be going way above 150km/h ... Not that I know this personally. I’ve never been pulled over for speeding.
Like the police here is hard to judge, specially around traffic. Like... they don’t give a shit as long as they think you’re not hurting anyone. So if I’m doing 80km/h in a street at 3AM they might not give a damn, but if I’m doing 60km/h in a pedestrian/bicycle heavy street at 7am or 1pm they would want to have a word with you.

So in other words the exact opposite of Virginia or Canada.

Yeah... around traffic. I say it like it’s something cool... but really selective enforcement of laws is an endemic problem here.

Racing in “Mexico” is just an old street racing term. They’re not actually there
